
Pumarol Finishes Second At XIX Copa Simon Bolivar

BARQUISIMETO, Venezuela – Barry University junior Willy Pumarol finished in a tie for individual second place in the XIX Simon Bolivar Cup held at the Barquisimeto Golf Club in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
During Sunday's final round, Pumarol made a hole in one on the sixth hole to build a comfortable lead on the field, but a bogey on his eighth hole followed by a triple bogey on number nine derailed his bid to win the championship.
Pumarol fired rounds of 68-73-68-73=282 to finish at 2 over par tied with Tomas Cocha of Argentina. Miguel Ordonez of Panama won the championship after firing a final round two under par 68 to finish the tournament at even par 280.
The Dominican Republic team consisted of Willy Pumarol and former Buccaneer golfer Juan Perello. Perello finished with a +24 586 (76-75-75-78). As a team, Pumarol and Perello finished third overall with a +26 586 behind Argentina (+11 571) and Peru (+22 582). The Dominican Republic beat superior golf countries like England, Brasil, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador thanks for the great game of Pumarol.
